MEET THE INSPIRATIONAL WOMEN OF 72POINT

At 72Point, we consistently strive to cultivate a supportive and equal work environment— one that encourages development, growth and inclusivity for all members of our staff.

We originally wrote this article for International Women's Day before the realities of the Coronavirus started to impact our cities, our country and our world.

As Women’s History Month ends, we are taking this time to highlight and celebrate all of the diverse, motivated, talented and strong women that comprise our 72Point U.S. team. In doing so, we are sharing some of their stories of professional and personal accomplishments, charitable work, passions, aspirations, and more.

Today, more than ever, we feel that it's important to celebrate our coworkers and show gratitude and respect for each other.

72Point women thrive in this work environment

“Working at 72Point for over two years has allowed me to grow professionally and personally. I've been mentored by the best, which has provided me the opportunity to challenge myself as a creative and a writer,” Creative Zoya Gervis says. “I've also been able to mentor others— most of whom have been women— and allow them the opportunity to thrive in this environment.”

Gervis also notes that what makes 72Point such a unique place to work is the camaraderie and sense of community felt amongst all coworkers.

“I've gained some wonderful friendships at 72Point, and it's the women here who support and uplift each other that truly makes the culture and environment so comfortable,” Gervis says. “If there was a word to describe 72Point as a company, it would be love— we all love what we do and genuinely enjoy working with one another.”

72Point women work hard and get recognized for it

An early 72Pointer, Alexandra Flowers, recalls her humble beginnings starting as an intern on the Media Liaison team in NYC.

Flowers says she wasn’t asked to do all the ‘traditional’ intern work of coffee orders and data collection. She was contributing to news initiatives, outreach strategies and reporting on results.

Flowers adds, “And now after just two years on the team I run our department's internship program through my own initiative.”

Many other women at 72Point got their start as interns, and have been recognized for their dedication and hard work, just like Flowers.

Senior Account Creative Manager Marie Haaland and Senior Account Director Tarveen Batra share how 72Point has allowed them the opportunity for massive professional growth in a short amount of time.

“Not only are the people incredibly supportive and always willing to hear new ideas, but the work is fun,” she says. “I've learned so much during my time here, growing both in my skills as a writer and in my role at the company.”

Haaland says she is also grateful that 72Point offered her the unique opportunity to travel to London for work with one of her colleagues.

“There are very few jobs that would have offered that opportunity, especially when I was still so new,” she says. “It's one of the many reasons I'm grateful for this company.”

Batra also progressed quickly— and even moved across the country from East Coast to West.

“I began managing in NYC, then moved to California, where I currently run the 72Point office in San Diego— all in under just three years!” she adds.

72Point women give back to the community and help those in need

The women of 72Point don’t just hustle while on the clock— they also work hard outside of work to help make the world a better place.

Journalist Isolde Walters spends her time outside the office volunteering at a rehabilitation center for teenage girls in Queens.

“I am passionate about helping people who suffer from addiction,” Walters says. “I also donate to a great organisation that hosts events for young people in recovery in New York.”

72Point Graphic Designer Daniela Mijares has worked for years to provide food and supplies for a shelter aiding children with congenital illnesses who are abandoned at birth in Bogotá, Colombia.

“Those children really need it, and the feeling of helping someone who needs it is priceless— those happy and grateful faces— they deserve it,” she says.

Another member of our Graphic Design team, Claudia Gutiérrez, recalls volunteering at a geriatric home while living in Cologne, Germany, where she helped feed the elderly and provided them with much-needed company and companionship.

Media Liaison Mallory Dubay spent time volunteering at an elementary school while studying abroad in Spain to help fourth graders learn English. When she returned to the U.S. and began interning at 72Point, she continued to use these skills by volunteering every week at a law office that prepared immigrants for their citizenship exam.

“I was able to help them with their English, as well as the written exam portion,” she adds.

Raffaella Tonani, an intern on the Media Liaison team, volunteered in her home country of Peru to help build houses for those living in impoverished areas.

Senior Account Manager Elly Vogt uses her passion project of creating fair trade reusable bags to promote environmental sustainability in her community.

“I started to spread awareness at local farmers markets and grocery stores to eliminate single use plastic,” Vogt says.

72Point women are passionate

When the women of 72Point aren’t working to grow their professional careers or giving back to those in need, they are strengthening their minds, bodies and souls through a variety of ways.

A few of our team members are especially passionate about yoga, and Isolde Walters is one of them. Not only does she practice it regularly, but she also hopes to one day become a part-time yoga instructor herself.

“Yoga isn't just great for your body - it helps you in all areas of life,” Walters says. “Getting to the mat everyday, no matter your mood or your feelings, is a great lesson for just showing up in life.”

Elly Vogt is another 72Point yogi, along with Claudia Gutiérrez, who also pole dances for exercise.

Gutiérrez says these practices have helped to improve her confidence and self-esteem. Similarly, Daniela Mijares says her motivation for a consistent exercise routine is the immense mental and physical benefits she gets from it.

We also have an array of multifaceted artists, including Marie Haaland, who is talented in knitting, and Account Manager Chelsea Cueto who enjoys cross-stitching in her spare time.

Other artistic mediums 72Point women have explored include photography, painting, modeling, acting, film-making, and editing.

Mijares says that her special talent is photography, which she has practiced for years, ultimately leading her to place highly in a challenging amateur photography competition.

Besides 3D animation and graphic design, Gutiérrez says that her true passion is art, specifically painting.

“I love to paint using different techniques and I want to continue painting until I get old,” she says. “I dream of having a beautiful studio with big windows and a lot of natural light surrounding me.”

Two of Claudia Gutiérrez’s favorite paintings she’s created.

Gutiérrez even created an illustrated book on Colombian history and was chosen to showcase her work at an exhibition in London.

Caitlyn Bullock posed as a model for a student photo gallery while studying abroad in Florence, Italy, along with acting in a video training series depicting the importance of diversity and inclusion in the workplace.

Haaland says she was able to utilize her skills of editing to assist in the production of a book that told the stories of people who have various chronic illnesses.

“I loved being able to use my skills to help further such an incredible project,” she reflects.

72Point women are also passionate about animals— Haaland takes care of pups in her free time, Bullock has produced a screenplay about the mistreatment of cows in the dairy industry, and Sarah Kocher has raised a pet pig, named Petunia.

“I will always be grateful for the happiness and joy she spread in everyone's lives,” Kocher remarks.

72Point women are well-traveled

In addition to displaying professionalism in their careers, showing altruism through charity work and being talented in their creative and personal pursuits, the women of 72Point have also traveled across the globe!

Two of our current interns, Raffaella Tonani and Yolany Paz, along with Journalist Isolde Walters and Senior Account Director Tarveen Batra, all came to the U.S. from abroad.

Tonani was born and raised in Peru. After high school, she says she was determined to continue her education abroad, so she came to the U.S. for her undergraduate studies, also doing a semester in Madrid, Spain.

“Getting to learn about different cultures are must-haves in my life,” Tonani says.

Paz came to the U.S. from Tegucigalpa, Honduras when she was young. She recalls how hard she worked throughout her K-12 education, especially with the challenge of trying to learn English along with the fundamentals needed for the rest of her life.

“I remember having to translate for my mom when we first got here at the age of five years old, when I knew English better than her,” Paz says.

She is now attending university studying Journalism, with a double minor in Public Relations and Fine Arts— 72Point is her first internship!

“I hope to inspire other immigrants to follow their dreams and to not be afraid to aim high,” Paz says.

Walters came to the U.S. from London, where she lived all her life. She recalls her twenties being a difficult time for her in deciding a career path, and didn’t realize she wanted to pursue journalism until her late twenties. After her training in the U.K., she was offered a position at our NYC office.

“It was daunting to move to New York at six weeks notice, leaving all my friends and family back home and not knowing a soul here, but it has been one of the most rewarding experiences of my life,” Walters reflects. “I have learnt so much, broadened my horizons and become far more self-sufficient than I was back in the U.K.”

Batra grew up in Toronto, Canada, and recalls feeling a bit of a culture shock coming to the U.S.

“Canada was just how people say it is— everyone is nice, we all played together and our families all knew each other,” she says. “When I moved to America, there was definitely a hustle and bustle that took getting used to, everyone and everything wasn't for fun, but more competitive.”

Batra hasn’t just stayed put in the U.S. since coming from Canada— she says she loves to travel and aims for one big trip each year.

“In my lifetime, I've been blessed to have gone to Thailand, South Africa, Brazil, Hong Kong, Amsterdam, Germany, London, China, Spain, Jamaica, and India,” she says. “I also have a trip to Italy planned, but my next bucket list place is Greece!”

72Point Graphic Designer Claudia Gutiérrez was born in a small city in the south of Colombia, called Buga. Her family moved around Colombia every few years, and lived abroad as well— once in Panama and twice in America.

“Because I had a nomadic childhood, I love to travel,” she says. “It is extremely fascinating to see new places and learn about different cultures.”

She studied Graphic Design in Bogotá and wanted to travel after completing university, so she went to Spain for a few months. Her next stop was Germany, where she went to immerse herself in the culture to properly learn the language.

Media Liaison Mallory Dubay also spent a semester abroad in Granada, Spain, while studying at her university.

“It was easily the best six months of my life and I went from knowing almost no Spanish to now being able to hold full conversations!” she says.

Similarly, Senior Account Manager Elly Vogt and Media Liaison Caitlyn Bullock also spent time abroad while studying.

“During college, I had an internship in London and studied abroad in Australia, which piqued my love of travel,” Vogt says. “Upon graduation, I backpacked through Europe and then moved to Sydney, Australia for a year.”

Vogt says that she still continues to travel the world, and over the past two years, has gone to Vietnam, Bali, Spain, Croatia, Australia, and Budapest.

Right before starting at 72Point, Bullock studied abroad in Florence, Italy, marking her first time out of the country.

“I was able to travel to Barcelona, London, Amsterdam and Vienna during my time abroad,” she says.
